RCYC Challenges UST Nursing Students to Face Their Fears
by Hazel Vera Tan
Thomasian nurses bravely accepted the challenges of the Face Your Fears competition organized by the Red Cross Youth Council (RCYC) as part of the Nursing Week celebration last November 18.
In this game, competing teams needed to go through seven sets of tasks namely, Take a Hold of My Heart, Dig and Seep the Coins Deep, Pick and You’ll Eat Sick, Egg Facial or a Lockdown?, Math in Pandora’s Box, Mouse Manic and Panic, Charades in Frog Parades and Red Card or Cry Hard?. With these challenges, the RCYC tested the Nursing students’ phobias, which specifically included xenophobia (fear of foreigners and strangers), hemaphobia (fear of blood), rupophobia (fear of dirt), sitoscoleciphobia (fear of eating worms), ankylophobia (fear of immobility of a joint), panphobia (fear of the unknown), musophobia (fear of mice), ranidaphobia (fear of frogs) and hypengyophobia (fear of responsibility).
The Black team composed of Amelia Fegalquin, Kakay Fernando, Jada Flaviano and KT Florentin bested all the rest of the contenders for the top spot. They were then followed by the Orange team with members Joana Punongbayan, Rory Rapados, Aeron Ramos, Gizzelle Ramos and Pesky Pescanie. Nico Ardente, Jerlene Asor, Lara Atal, Justine Ansaldo, and Riza Lorraine Aunzo of the Red team fell short and settled for the third place.
